The Story
Akhil Kumar is an Indian musical artist — composer, lyricist, singer and director — who has predominantly scored music for Tamil short films. His first film was Ranam (2018), and he made his composing debut in 2020 with the independent album Maatrangal – A Change of Life.
Born on 25 February 1997 in Hyderabad and raised in Tamil Nadu, Akhil completed his engineering degree at Kathir College of Engineering, Coimbatore, and today works as a UI/UX designer in Chennai — composing, writing and singing through everything life puts in front of him.
His journey began in 2012, inspired by A.R. Rahman, G.V. Prakash and Anirudh Ravichander. The piano is his first love — the place where every emotion becomes a melody. After years of reimagining songs across languages, he began composing his own: from Vizhugindrane, first performed in college on February 14th, to Maatrangal, released on Friendship Day 2020, to the soulful Secret of Happiness and Kan Imaiyin Orathilae albums of 2021 that touched listeners’ hearts.
